Beauty Pageant is not only akin to beauty, but it should also encompass beauty with the brain. It is always a stiff competition and to emerge as a winner is a bit challenging.  

Can you imagine during the pageant hardly anybody is talking about the winner? 

The people and the media have shown more interested in runner-up. Yes, this thing has happened at an event of ‘Femina Miss India 2020’ where Manya Singh comes out as a runner-up.  

She hails from a small-town Uttar Pradesh, her father is an autorickshaw driver and to crown VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 runner-up, which she dared to dream big, and this come true is quite unbelievable! She is the cynosure and has touched a chord with people because of her perseverance and single-minded focus despite difficulties. Manya is academically bright but with the limited opportunities in the village, she cannot get the right kind of favourable circumstances as she craved something different and ran away to Mumbai to fulfil her dreams at the age of 14. She worked hard, day and night to achieve her dream. Though she continued her education and giving the fees herself by managing two jobs randomly at the pizza joint and a call centre. At the age of 19, she won the title of runner-up of Femina Miss India 2020, but the pertinent question is that her scornful journey makes an impression and lesson to others, especially those who dream big and are coming from a lower-middle-class family that if one can overcome fear, pain and struggle with a positive frame of mind, one can sure taste the success. She lights an example to others and inspires millions in India. 

Even Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath will soon meet runner-up Femina Miss India, Manya Singh for her remarkable achievement and incredible journey, who have made not just their parents but also the state proud.  

It is not an easy cake. She worked hard to groom, unlearned to learn new edges of life and earned the respect for herself as well as for her parents.  

Salute to such parents also to go against any social norms and support their daughter.  

No doubt, she is the role model among the youth especially girls for the times to come. She keeps the hopes alive that anybody can achieve great things in life by boiling and working hard rather than blaming the circumstances.

It is thoughtful indeed and in 2015, her hard work paid off. She was acknowledged by the Lakme Fashion Week Gen Next Platform and soon after won the award for ‘Green Wardrobe Initiative’ by HUL and Grazia Young Fashion Award. Her Doodlage was recognised by Elle Graduates as an exciting young designer to watch especially for great thought and her immense contribution in the field of eco-fashion, which is quite amazing and noteworthy.  

Now, everyone knows Kriti Tula’, Creative Director & co-owner at Doodlage. She has featured in Forbes for recognition of working towards the United Nation’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). She also appeared as one of the guests on a show organized by CNBC TV 18 titled “Changing India.”  

 

Being an avid environmentalist, she knows how fashion can damage to the environment in the process of creating more clothes and how it leads to wastage of natural resources.  

During the journey of fashion designing, she has a desire to do something own, should be unique and innovative and more importantly which has not been achieved by many or rather the first person to take the initiative and that is why in April 2012, Doodlage fashion label commenced with the elementary idea of upcycling and recycling of waste material to form a fresh piece of wearable fabric.

Doodlage means tailoring waste into fashion. No doubt, fashion is a costly affair and to keep check of the environment value, Doodlage is looking out for recycling of waste material, which reduces power consumption and prevents waste across industries. Otherwise, it will be a looming problem for the fashion industry!
