Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Why we celebrate the festival?

Janmasthami is widely celebrated across India and is popularly knowns as Krishna Janmashtami.  Devotees celebrate this day with joy and enthusiasm.

People decorate their house with flowers, diyas and lights & wear new clothes and worship Lord Krishna.

Janmasthami is not only a festival, it is a grand festival, the birthday of Lord Krishna, who is believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born on this day to destroy Mathura's demon king, Kansa.

The date of Krishna Janmashtami is on Monday, 30 August 2021.

During this occasion, Krishna temples are decorated. One can see bhajans and kirtans, devotional songs are taking place along with satsangs.  Most of the places are hosting dance-drama based on the depiction of the life of Krishna.

Dal Handi is an important event during this festival since as a kid Lord Krishna was named "Makhanchor" or the one who steals butter. During Dal Handi the same stealing butter activity of Lord Krishna is narrated.  Keeping the earthen pot or handi is filled with butter, dry fruits and milk is kept at a considerable height and tighten with the help of ropes. The interesting part is to reach the handi by making a human pyramid and most of the local boys gather to break the pot.  Generally, it is fixed at a height of 20-30 feet from the ground.  The boy who stands at the top is called Govinda and the groups are either called handis or mandals.

During the Krishna Janmasthami, one can visit the various Krishna Temples.  It is worth watching the decorated idol of Krishna with new sparkling clothes, mukut, and other jewellery. Major Krishna temples are decorated with lights and flowers and organize recitation of ‘'Bhagavata Purana and Bhagavad Gita." The chiefly are:

It is an important festival of Hindu.  Devotees are doing fasting, singing devotional songs of love for Krishna, and keeping a vigil into the night and praying to Lord Krishna.  After Krishna's midnight hour birth, the idol of baby Krishna are washed and clothed, then placed in a cradle.  After that, the devotees break their fast, by sharing food and sweets.

Particularly, it is celebrated in Mathura and Vrindavan along with major Vaishnava and non-sectarian communities mainly find in West Bengal, Bihar, Manipur, Assam, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and all other states of India.

According to Hindu tradition, Janmasthami is celebrated when Krishna is believed to have been born which is in Mathura, at midnight on the eighth day of Bhadrapada month. The main reason for celebrating this festival is to dispel the evil from the earth and strengthen the principles of unity by bringing people together and maintain the spirit of brotherhood.

Mystery of Nidhivan temple at Night

Nidhivan is not the kind of forest one can discern.  It is the religious sentiment that relates to Lord Krishna’s life. It is the land of Krishna.

The beautiful Nidhivan Temple in Vrindavan of Mathura district comes under Uttar Pradesh Government, is the place where Lord Krishna childhood passed, and it is also called Bankey Bihari Temple.

It is to be believed that when the essence of Vrindavan was lost over time, it was rediscovered by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, when he visited Vrindavana, with the purpose of locating the lost holy places associated with Krishna's life.  Even today, people believe that Vrindavana is the place where one can solely witness the affection between Krishna and Radha.

No doubt one can see here some of the most mesmerising Krishna temples, but Nidhivan is popular and known for all different reasons.

Nidhivan is known as Tulsi [VanaTulsi] or Holy basil forest.  These trees are unique in their way.  Here, trees are completely hollow from inside and have roots 5 mm above the ground. Though no water is given to them ever, yet their leaves remain green throughout the year.  If you can see generally the branches of trees grow upwards but here the branches of trees grow downwards and are tangled.  It is believed that all the creepers of trees are Gopis. People are afraid to take a leaf from here because it is harmful to them.  That is why people refrain from carrying leaves from Nidhivan.

This Holy basil forest is akin to Krishna Rasleela, which happens every night.  It is the joyful dance of young Krishna and gopis [milkmaids] of Vrindavana eternal in legend.  This divine dance is known as Rasleela is born out of pure love and devotion.  According to the locals, this is the place where Lord Krishna still visits and herds Raasleela every single night with gopis and that is why after the evening Aarti at 7.00 pm in the temples, the doors of Nidhivan shut down for the devotees as well as priests. Nidhivan also has the maximum number of monkeys in the entire Vrindavan.  Surprisingly, after Aarti, the birds and animals also leave this place in the evening.

This place is strictly forbidden to stay at night.  According to the local priest if anyone has tried to stay in the night in Nidhivan has not lived longer than 24 hours. People tend to stay willingly at night to see Lord Krishna but could not endure seeing the immense energy of God, thus his eyesight goes away even occur death also.

It is believed that Swami Haridas, who drowned in the devotion of Lord Krishna and Radha, was able to see the Rasleela of Lord Krishna.

Inside Nidhivan there is a palace called Rang Mahal, where Lord Krishna is decorated every night.  People come and worship and a jar filled with water, brush teeth, betel leaf with areca nut are kept near the bed.  In the morning when the doors are opened, it is believed that someone has slept in the bed and water in the jar is also use up and so does the pan and brush teeth!

Even with the houses built in the vicinity of Nidhivan, one can have an actual view of the area, but no one takes a risk to attempt to do so. It is said, those who attempted to see through the Nidhivan post 8.00 pm also lost their mental balance or sight. Due to this reason, many people have sealed their windows with bricks and those who have an open window, also close them down after the bell of the evening aarti.  Here people do follow the axiom Precaution is better than cure.

No doubt, Nidhivan has its own amazing mystery which is still beyond exposition.  You cannot discredit the religious sentiment of the people.  As it rightly says, “Where the thinking boundary of Science ends the reason of spirituality begins.

Taking care of Cancer patients'

To evaluate the cancer patients is more dainty especially when they are hospitalised.   At that crucial stage, you need to identify the area and require to be improved.

It is important that the cancer patients are properly diagnosis and a constant process of dialogue with doctors be there.  When the patients are in bed, they are thinking of future conditions and thus, economic insurance solutions related to the disease should be kept open.

It has been noted that over recent years an important change has taken place regarding caring for patients.  The bio-psycho-social model.  This model is an alteration of the system at several different but conform levels --- biological, psychological and social.

This revolution is taking place in the field of medicine with regard to chronic and degenerative diseases such as cancer.  It seems to be an evaluation of the best possible treatment. Further, these aspects are directly linked to the patients:

  • Quality of life
  • Personal aspirations
  • Values
  • Quality of their relations and needs

During ongoing treatment of the patient precise decision has taken to make aware of health and have a sense of ability to look after their own families or continue to work.

An important task of the physician while caring for patients, to inform them about what can have been offered to them in order to improve their independence and quality of life.  It is the evaluation of the physical, psychological and social problems of the patient.

It is imperative to bring realities i.e. [the world of the doctor and the world of the patients] which has resulted in a rapid change and increase in the number of instruments available.  These instruments are created to evaluate the quality of life, needs and satisfaction.  Based upon the analysis, it represents a further approach to understand the patients' conditions and their necessities, this may act as a guide for all those who administer care.  Thus, satisfy the majority of the present needs of hospitalized cancer patients.

The main objective is to assess the different needs of cancer patients and to understand their deeper meanings in order to promote an improvement in the quality of care and also the basic demographic and clinical facilities.

The quality of care for cancer patients are solely dependent on these factors:

  • Information – The first factor refers to information relative to diagnosis and future conditions and also therapeutic choices and on results of tests.  Knowing everything would hurt the patient. But knowing the most important things is indispensable.  When we are talking about ‘future’ i.e. the length and quality of life though it is worth asking questions, but only up to a certain point.
  • Communication – It regards clinicians, particularly the feeling of being [or not] in a reassuring and sincere relation, based on perpetual dialogue.  The doctor-patient communication should be based on a more interactive, simpler and more human situation that needs to be created.
  • Relational factor – It is the perception of the patient's position in a wider context i.e. [family, other patients, society in general].
  • Intimacy – Fondness can be added on while caring for patients i.e. an empathetic rapport with patients.

It has been observed that the traditional paternalistic doctor-patient relationship is no longer acceptable.  However, the basis of a new clearer and "shared" model has yet to be found where it allows the patient to feel that the doctor is nearer to him/her about any future eventuality.

The patient-physician relationships should be merely on the information-communication basis where the cancer patients at that moment largely need the psychological support, the need for economic aid and the need for spiritual support.

The 'humanization movement' in hospitals, should be culturally based and it will be accomplished not only through education and training processes of health workers but also by structural interventions aimed at contributing the experience of hospitalization more amenable and complacent for patients.

This could be a first step in the direction of real change in cancer patients and it adds value in assessing hospitalized patients' needs.

Sandes messaging app is better than Whatsapp

Sandes is the Indian government initiative.  It is an instant messaging app that has been launched by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), to give a boost to the self-reliant India initiative.

Previously, it was accessible to only government officials, now this app applies to everyone.  This is an end-to-end encrypted messaging app.

If you are using Sandes app, as a user you should know how data collection and especially about its security.  Generally, it collects Contact Info, User Content, Identifiers, Diagnostics and other data.  The system collects metadata of each message, including the sender’s and the receiver’s identity, the date, time and size of instant or group messages, audio and video calling date, time and duration.

As these are quite common and most of the messaging apps are collected i.e. the log files, crash reports, user’s service settings, online status, last seen status and date of when you last updated your profile.

In Sandes app all messages say in an individual or group chat are End-to-End encrypted to ensure that the communication should be secured.  It stated clearly that the system does not sell or share any personally identifiable information with any third party.  Any information provided to the system will be protected from unauthorised access, alteration, or destruction. There is always an exception -- covered under law enforcement/court matters etc.

Now there is a vital question can Sandes app is friendly and available for Android, and iOS users only?  Yes, one can use Sandes app on a desktop or laptop but it is not compatible with tablets, but one can use the web version of the app.

Currently, it is also not available on Play Store, but one can go to the government site and will get the app while iOS users can download the Sandes app from App Store.

As Play Store is quite familiar to download the app.  However, if one finds it difficult here is the step how to download Sandes app:

Whatsapp vs Sandes

The most pertinent question Sandes app is the best alternative to WhatsAPP?  Users are anxious and want to know the notable difference and how this app can be useful and appealing to the commonality.

The major highlights are as follows:

Sandes

Whatsapp

  • It offers an option to sign up using the email Id and not just only with the mobile phone number.  Please note this is currently restricted to government officials only.

  • It allows you to create an account using your number.

  • Users can share videos or photos with up to 500 MB.

  • You can send videos 16MB and regular files up to 100MB.

  • Fingerprint lock feature and screen lock feature are not available.

  • It offers a fingerprint lock feature and screen lock feature.

  • It can be downloaded via the APK link.

  • Not available.

  • In Sandes, if you are unable to find your email Id and have a new mobile number then you have to create a new account thus chats or existing profiles will be lost.

  • It has the option to let change your phone number without removing your existing profile.

In toto, Sandes has a similar interface to Whatsapp and one can find most of the Whatsapp features in this app also.

Moreover, in Sandes there is an interesting section called “Gimoji,” which displays symbols used in official communication.  It has features like a broadcast message, status, disappearing messages, forward messages, delete messages, archive chats and more.  One can create a group of at least 50 members.  Those who are new contacts are using the same platform have the option to add sync contacts and without invitation, anyone can instantly join to a group via this app.

Recently, the ongoing controversy of Whatsapp regarding its terms of service and privacy policy has raised an eyebrow to its users!   The timing of Sandes [self-reliant India initiative] could be interesting since it has a configuration similar to Whatsapp.

Yoga and its benefits to students

Students who are engaged in professional courses are under stress and especially medical students.  The medical curriculum is rated as highest, and many students have experienced a significant increase in stress and anxiety.  Thus, the lifestyle of these students seems to be disorder and it affects their health as well.

The most affected body areas among them are the neck, shoulder and back regions; it is important to strengthen the muscles in those areas.  Now yoga practice can be a source of a potential treatment for chronic lower back pain.  It is found that undergraduate students and post‑graduate students reported body pain in at least one region. The most prevalent pain locations are the chest/shoulder, head/neck, middle back and right hand.

The inclusion of regular practice of yoga can have a significant change in the lifestyle allowing them to maintain their health as well as relieving them from their day‑to‑day stress.  It is crucial to know the awareness levels about yoga and its benefits amongst medical undergraduate and post‑graduate students towards ensuring physical, mental and psychological well‑being.

No doubt the medical students are in a physical and mental state of mind because this profession is demanding so much as well as they experience the problem related to posture.  Their body ache and lower back pain are the most prevalent and practicing yoga give physical and mental benefits also.

Health impacts excessive usage of social media

The internet has become an integral part of our daily life.  It has been seen over the last decade, the use of social media [Facebook, Twitter] has been increasing rapidly and especially the younger generations getting addicted to it.

Most university students are glued to social media and excessive use of Facebook can have a negative impact on the physical health of its users. It is found that students frequently use social media [mostly Facebook] for news and social communication.

Globally, about 3.1 billion people are using the internet on modern gadgets.  Now the social media [mainly Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and WhatsApp] is termed as a “global consumer phenomenon” and it is particularly popular among the young generation because of quickly delivers instant communication, and seeking information is very easy in our modern lives.

For graduates and undergraduates, these social media platforms are highly used.  Technology with the use of the internet plays an important role in their academic success. But we should know the proper handling of social media i.e. mainly depend on the purpose and frequency of its use.  With the instant of the internet, we can communicate with friends and family give a greater positive result, lower stress and better psychological functioning.

On the other hand, excessive use of the internet leads to gaming and gambling resulted in depression.  It has been seen that the individuals are preoccupied with electronic games, search, and recreational activities, thus lead to neglect of sporting and aerobic exercise, familial communication, and societal accomplishments.

According to the study, young users, who are actively and emotionally involved in their digital lives reported worse sleep, higher anxiety, and depression.  By using social media consistently one can be associated with a decrease in happiness and an increase in depression.

There is a difference in using social media -- addicts Vs non-addicts. But those who are social media addicts are likely to have physical symptoms than non-addicts, which include - backache, headache, neck pain, shoulder pain, wrist pain, a strain of the eyes, neck problems, and myopia.

Perceptibly, social media has become an integral networking habit in our daily life.  Anything in excess is known to cause problems and usage of Social media is no exception to the rule.

Internet is a boon, but the student should use the internet only when they need it. Thus it is recommended:

  • They should focus more on the study and reduce time spent on social media
  • Students should engage more in physical exercise
  • If they have to stay on the internet for a long duration, they should take a break and engage in some freehand exercise
  • To overcome the sleeping disturbances student should stop the use of the screen at least 1 hour before going to bed.
  • Awareness programs have to be undertaken to inform students of the negative impacts of excessive Social Media use.

The pertinent question is how to maintain the relationship between the use of social media and users' health.  We cannot ignore the social media in the daily lives of a student. It should be remembered that excessive use of social media leads to economic, physical, and psychological problems such as over-expenditure, eye problems, headaches, sleep disturbances, etc.

It is important that each user should monitor the time of use and practice control by limiting their use and also keeping their eyes at a healthy distance from phones and not using them very frequently.

Causes of smoking among students

It is to be investigated that mostly the youngsters are smokers and frequency of smoking is more prevalent among the college students.

If you want to reveal the main reason for smoking among college students are fashion and style, tension due to studies and family problems.  Now, if you go for an opinion -- 54 out of 60 non-smokers, have agreed that smoking is a bad habit.

No doubt, cigarette smoking is very common among college students.  Smoking can be defined as the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco i.e., wrapped in cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.  It can be defined in two aspects:

  • Occasionally smoking
  • Habitual smoking

Occasionally smoking is casual smoking, which is usually done in a social situation, fun, or to relieve stress.  Whilst habitual smoking is a physical addiction to products of tobacco.

Initially, college students are started smoking tobacco as a fashion and style.  For them, smoking is a status symbol, which adds to their personality.  The other reasons may be their friends, relatives, respectable people in society smoke and hence directly or indirectly encourage them to smoke. Another reason may be advertisements of cigarette companies in which they portray movie stars and models as smokers and show it to be the modern fashion trend.

Perceptibly, this smoking habit later develops into addiction.  This is a bit alarming.

The main objective is to ascertain cigarette smoking among college students and to explore the causes of cigarette smoking among students.

Cigarette smoking is very common among college students. In general, many students do suffer from some kind of problems, mostly related to studies or family problems.  Thus, the students started to smoke in order to relieve their stress.  Now, they should understand the core value that the short-term effects of smoking can potentially reduce their stress, but it cannot solve their problems, and in fact causes many other long-term health problems.

Further in-depth research is recommended to assess the frequency of smoking on a larger scale. On the other side, health education and awareness campaigns should be promoted in young adults about the ill effects in order to decrease the frequency of smoking.

Tax Free Countries

People are tended to be happy when they hear a relief on tax.  They do consider the tax is a big burden on themselves.

In general, when somebody works at a job to make money, one needs to pay income tax.  When the amount to be paid is a percentage of the income, that the government of a country collects from its citizens, is called income tax.

Thus, this tax money helps to ensure the roads you travel on are safe and well-maintained. Taxes fund public libraries and parks. It is also used to fund many types of government programs that help especially the poor and less fortunate, as well as many schools.

Now, if you can visualize that you are rewarded not to pay income tax/you are staying in tax-free countries, where people do not have to pay tax or you have been exited from tax.  It seems to be unrealistic!  But that is true.

Especially in these countries’ income tax is not applicable.  Here, people enjoy exemption of such a big relief.

1.

United Arab Emirates – UAE is a rich country known for its oil reserve.  A tax-free country in the world.  Here, for foreign ownership trade free zone is open for easy access to trade.  Since it is a tax-free country, people are not subject to income tax.

Empowering women and girl to end child labour

The term “child labour” is often defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is ...
