In today’s culture, irregular or crooked teeth are regarded as being unattractive and undesirable.  A smile is the most striking part of one’s face.  It is the first thing people notice when they meet someone, and first impressions do count.

A healthy smile is not just important for good looks but signifies much more.  It often reflects good health, which can contribute importantly to good general health, a sparkling personality and a personal sense of well-being.

Causes of irregular teeth

Irregularities in teeth can be caused either by local factors or general factors.  Local factors are mainly: 

- Gum diseases

- Trauma

- Premature loss of baby teeth

- Heredity and genetics

- Prenatal-postnatal injuries

- Abnormal habits like thumb sucking

- Nutritional deficiencies

- Metabolic diseases

- Bad Posture

Obviously there is a need for treatment.  Besides being a deterrent of one’s smile, poorly arranged teeth can break off easily and can trap food particles that causes tooth decay and gum disease.  It also reduces the chewing ability thus affecting digestion and general health of an individual.

Orthodontic treatment or treatment used to correct irregularities of teeth employs removable of fixed appliances.  Generally, removable appliances are used mainly for breaking bad habits like thumb sucking, for minor tooth movements and as a retentive appliances in the post treatment phase.  

Desirable tooth movements are brought about by fixed appliances like braces and wires as they exert a greater amount of force on the teeth.  Duration of treatment may vary from six months to 36 months depending upon the severity of the problem.

Surgical intervention may be required in certain cases.


                                                            

One should know the important things to remember 

·   -    A person is never too old to undergo orthodontic treatment though treatment  may be easier at younger age.  If already wearing braces get one’s teeth cleaned every three months.

-   Avoid sticky foods and hard foods which may cause breakage of appliance.

-   Maintain good oral hygiene.

-   Visit the dental surgeon regularly and do not miss the scheduled appointments.

In human body, mouth is played an important part.  In the mouth are teeth that have chiefly three jobs – eating, talking and smiling and our teeth avow us to smile, talk to others, and eat foods.  Every person has a smile that is different from anyone else, and that makes us so special.

One should comprehend that teeth is played a pivotal role in our lives.  It helps us to chew and digest food, help us to talk and speak clearly and they also give our face its shape.

In general, a smile has other day-to-day benefits.  It can boost us greater confidence, as well as influence our social lives, careers and relationships.  Encompassing all these significances, it makes sense to give our oral health the best care possible.



As it says, a healthy smile can really mold the positivity of our mind-set, our visual appearance as well as improving the health of not only our mouth but our body too.  Now-a-days, everyone wants to look pretty and have the perfect smile they have always dreamed of and thanks to cosmetic dentistry.

In toto, oral health is vital and it has an asset for a human being.  It makes you more attractive, can boost the immune system, improved heart health and it allays the day-to-day stress that one deals with.

One should be discerned that irregular or crooked teeth are a prevalent problem chiefly experienced by many children, teens and adults.  In point of fact they do not require treatment unless they are causing any health problems or self-esteem issues.
